  • Work-Hardening Avoidance: Monel K500 will work-harden rapidly if the cutting tool is allowed to dwell or rub. We program our CNC machines to maintain a constant, steady feed rate, ensuring the tool is always cutting beneath the work-hardened layer.
  • Rigidity is Crucial: The material exerts high forces on cutting tools. We use the shortest possible tool overhangs and extremely rigid workholding fixtures to eliminate chatter.
  • Coolant Application: Generous amounts of high-quality, sulfur-free water-soluble coolant are required to dissipate heat and flush chips away, preventing the chips from welding to the cutting edge.
  • Tapping: Tapping Monel K500 is challenging due to its toughness. We often utilize thread milling instead of tapping for internal threads to ensure thread quality and prevent tool breakage inside the part.
