Professional Aluminum Anodizing Services: Type II & Type III
Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a durable, corrosion-resistant, and anodic oxide finish. Unlike paint or plating, the anodic layer is integrated into the underlying aluminum substrate, meaning it cannot chip or peel. It is the industry standard for protecting aluminum parts while enhancing their aesthetic appeal.
At JUCHENG, we offer comprehensive anodizing solutions tailored to your functional and cosmetic needs. From vibrant Type II (Standard) colors for consumer electronics to robust Type III (Hardcoat) for military and industrial applications, our automated lines ensure consistent film thickness and color repeatability batch after batch. We also specialize in complex selective anodizing, using precision masking to keep specific areas conductive or unaltered.

JUCHENG’s Anodizing Capabilities

We control every variable in the bath to deliver the perfect finish:
  • Type II (Sulfuric Acid) Anodizing: The standard for corrosion protection and decoration. Available in a wide spectrum of dyed colors. Thickness typically 5-25µm.
  • Type III (Hard) Anodizing: Produced at lower temperatures and higher voltages to create a dense, ceramic-hard coating (60-70 HRC equivalent). Thickness up to 50µm+. Ideal for wear surfaces.
  • Precision Masking: We use CNC-cut tapes, silicone plugs, and liquid masks to protect grounding points, threads, or tight-tolerance bores from the anodizing build-up.
  • Pre-Treatment Options: We offer Etching (Matte finish) to hide machining lines or Chemical Brightening (Glossy finish) before anodizing to achieve the desired texture.
  • Color Matching: We match colors to physical samples or Pantone codes using our custom dye mixing station.

Materials Available

Materials Suitable for Anodizing
While anodizing is specific to aluminum, different alloys react differently:
(Links to Aluminum Material Pages)
Alloy Series Anodizing Outcome Notes
6000 Series (6061/6063) Excellent The best alloys for anodizing. Produces clear, vibrant colors and consistent hardcoats.
5000 Series (5052) Very Good Good protection, but colors may look slightly different than on 6061 due to magnesium.
7000 Series (7075) Good Hardcoat turns yellowish/bronze naturally. Clear anodizing may have a golden tint.
2000 Series (2024) Poor/Fair High copper content makes it difficult to anodize. Hardcoat is often dark grey/black.
Titanium Specialized We also offer Titanium Anodizing (Type II) for medical color-coding (no dye involved).

Comparison

Comparison: Type II vs. Type III Anodizing
Which type is right for your project?
Feature Type II (Standard / Decorative) Type III (Hardcoat)
Thickness 5µm - 25µm 25µm - 75µm
Hardness Moderate High (60-70 HRC)
Coloring Excellent (Any color) Limited (Dark Grey/Black/Bronze)
Wear Resistance Good Extreme
Cost Lower Higher (More energy/time)
Best For Aesthetics, Corrosion Protection Gears, Sliding Parts, Military

Why Choose Us

  • Film Thickness Control: We use eddy-current gauges to verify coating thickness, ensuring it meets your engineering drawing specs (e.g., +/- 5µm).
  • Rack Mark Management: We strategically place racking points (where the part holds electrical contact) in non-visible areas or threaded holes to maintain cosmetic perfection.
  • Sealing Integrity: After dyeing, we use high-quality nickel-acetate or hot water sealing to lock in the color and maximize corrosion resistance (passing salt spray tests).
  • One-Stop Shop: Machining and anodizing happen in an integrated workflow, reducing lead times and the risk of shipping damage between vendors.

Advantages

  •  Durability: Harder than the raw metal; resists scratches and abrasion.
  • Non-Conductive: The oxide layer is an electrical insulator (unless masked).
  • Aesthetics: Maintains the metallic texture while adding permanent color.
  • No Dimensional Change: Unlike painting (which adds thickness), Type II anodizing adds minimal build-up, preserving tight machining tolerances.

Industries Served

  • Consumer Electronics: Smartphones, laptop chassis, camera lenses (Matte Black).
  • Aerospace: Hydraulic valves, structural brackets (Hardcoat).
  • Automotive: Custom trim, suspension components, shift knobs.
  • Medical: Surgical handles, device carts (easy to sterilize).
  • Robotics: Joint housings, structural arms, decorative covers.
