Professional Silicone Mold Making & RTV Tooling
The silicone mold is the heart of the vacuum casting process. Unlike rigid steel molds used in injection molding, Silicone Molds (often called Soft Tooling) are flexible, allowing for the production of parts with complex undercuts and negative drafts without the need for expensive slides or lifters.
At JUCHENG, mold making is an engineering discipline. We use high-quality RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanization) liquid silicone rubber to encapsulate the master model. Our experienced mold makers meticulously design the parting lines, gates, and vents to ensure the liquid resin flows perfectly into every cavity, producing bubble-free parts with minimal flash and invisible seam lines.
Silicone Mold Making

JUCHENG’s Soft Tooling Expertise

We optimize mold design for lifespan and part quality:
  • Advanced Parting Techniques: We utilize "zig-zag" or wave cutting lines to ensure the mold halves lock together perfectly, minimizing flash (excess material) on the final part.
  • Gating & Venting Design: Our engineers strategically place gates (entry points) and vents to allow resin to flow smoothly and air to escape, preventing voids in thin walls or detailed features.
  • Vacuum Degassing: The liquid silicone is poured under vacuum to ensure the mold itself is free of bubbles, which could otherwise transfer surface defects to the parts.
  • Mold Life Management: We select specific silicone grades to maximize mold life (typically 20+ shots) based on the aggressiveness of the casting resin.
  • Complex Inserts: We design molds to hold metal inserts or overmolding cores securely in place during the casting process.

Materials Available

Silicone Rubber Materials (RTV)
We use industrial-grade RTV Silicones tailored to the casting requirements:
Silicone Type Characteristics Best Application
Standard Transparent Silicone Semi-transparent, medium hardness (Shore 40A). Allows visibility of the master during cutting. General purpose molds for ABS-like and PP-like resins.
High-Temp Silicone Enhanced thermal resistance. Resists degradation from exothermic heat. Molds for high-temp resins (like Hei-Cast 8570) or clear resins (PX 5212).
Soft Silicone Lower durometer (softer). High flexibility for deep undercuts. Parts with extreme undercuts or delicate features.
Hard Silicone Higher durometer. Greater dimensional stability. Large parts or parts requiring tight tolerances.

Comparison

Comparison: Silicone Mold vs. Steel Mold
Why use a soft mold instead of a hard one?
Feature Silicone Mold (Vacuum Casting) Steel Mold (Injection Molding)
Cost Very Low High
Lead Time Fast (2-3 Days) Slow (4-8 Weeks)
Undercuts Flexible (Can stretch to release) Rigid (Requires slides/lifters)
Life Span Short (20-25 shots) Long (100k+ shots)
Process Gravity/Vacuum Pouring High Pressure Injection
Best For Prototyping / Low Volume Mass Production

Why Choose Us

The JUCHENG Tooling Standard
  • Invisible Parting Lines: Our skilled mold makers cut parting lines in non-critical areas or along feature lines to make them virtually invisible on the final part.
  • Gate Removal: We design gates that are easy to remove and finish, ensuring no vestige remains on the cosmetic surfaces.
  • Rapid Tooling: We can produce a mold in as little as 48 hours after the master model is finished.
  • Mold Storage: For recurring low-volume orders, we store your masters (patterns) safely to create new molds quickly when needed.

Advantages

Benefits of Silicone Tooling
  • No Draft Angles Needed: unlike steel molds, silicone's flexibility allows molding parts with zero draft or even texture on vertical walls.
  • Texture Fidelity: Silicone replicates the exact surface finish of the master, down to microscopic fingerprints or leather grain.
  • Size Capability: We can pour massive silicone molds for parts up to 2 meters long.
  • Risk Reduction: If the design changes, making a new silicone mold is cheap and fast compared to modifying steel.

Industries Served

Industries Relying on Soft Tooling
  • Automotive Prototyping: Bumper fascias, dashboards, and lighting assemblies.
  • Medical Development: Clinical trial units for handheld devices and carts.
  • Consumer Goods: Marketing samples for photo shoots and focus groups.
  • Art & Sculpture: Reproducing complex artistic sculptures and statues.
