CNC Machining Guidelines for 6060

  • Chip Evacuation: 6060 is relatively soft and "gummy." It produces long, continuous chips. We use specialized chip-breaking end mills to prevent wrapping.
  • Cutting Speeds: High spindle speeds (RPM) are essential to shear the metal cleanly rather than tearing it, ensuring a low surface roughness (Ra).
  • Deburring: Burrs on 6060 can be pliable and hard to snap off. We use cryogenic deburring or fine abrasive tumbling to remove them without damaging the part geometry.
  • Lubrication: Oil-mist or flood coolant is mandatory to prevent the soft aluminum from building up on the tool edge (BUE).
