Axson PX 5210 Vacuum Casting Material
Axson PX 5210 is a specialized transparent polyurethane resin developed to simulate the high-performance characteristics of Polycarbonate (PC). While standard clear resins often soften at moderate temperatures, PX 5210 is engineered to maintain its structural rigidity and optical clarity even in high-temperature environments. At JUCHENG, we recommend this material for functional clear prototypes that must endure thermal stress, such as lighting components located near high-power LEDs or transparent enclosures for operating machinery.

Basic Characteristics & Composition
Axson PX 5210 allows designers to validate both the visual appeal and thermal performance of a transparent part simultaneously.
- Polycarbonate Simulation: It effectively mimics the hardness, stiffness, and thermal resistance of PC, bridging the gap between aesthetic models and functional testing.
- High Transparency: Although it has a slightly higher refractive index than PMMA-like resins, it achieves excellent optical clarity suitable for lenses and light guides.
- Thermal Stability: It offers a significantly higher Glass Transition Temperature (Tg) compared to standard clear resins like PX 5212.
- UV Resistance: It features good UV stability, ensuring parts do not yellow quickly under normal use conditions.
Color Options
- Natural State: Clear / Transparent (slightly warmer tone than PX 5212).
- Tinting: Can be tinted to achieve transparent colors (e.g., Transparent Amber, Blue, Red) for automotive lighting applications.
- Finishing: JUCHENG offers different levels of polishing: from "technical clear" (translucent) to "optical clear" (fully polished).
Key Technical Parameters
1. Mechanical Properties (Typical values after post-curing):
2. PROCESSING
4. STORAGE
| Property | Value | Unit | Standard |
| Hardness | 85 - 88 | Shore D | ISO 868 |
| Flexural Modulus | 2,300 - 2,500 | MPa | ISO 178 |
| Tensile Strength | 70 - 75 | MPa | ISO 527 |
| Elongation at Break | 8 - 12 | % | ISO 527 |
| Glass Transition Temp (Tg) | 100 - 110 | °C | TMA |
| Refractive Index | ~ 1.52 | - | - |
| Linear Shrinkage | < 0.4 | % | - |
2. PROCESSING
- Vacuum Requirement: Must be cast in a vacuum chamber to remove air bubbles, which is critical for clear parts.
- Pot Life: Approx. 10-15 minutes. This allows sufficient time to fill complex molds with varying wall thicknesses.
- Viscosity: Low mixed viscosity facilitates the filling of fine details without trapping air.
3. PRECAUTIONS
- Post-Curing: To achieve the maximum heat resistance (simulating PC), thermal post-curing in an oven is strictly required. Without this step, the material will not reach its full thermal potential.
- Contamination: Optical parts are sensitive to dust and mold release agents. We use specialized cleaning processes to ensure clarity.
4. STORAGE
- Conditions: Store liquid components in a dry place between 15°C and 25°C. Containers must be resealed immediately after use to prevent moisture absorption (which causes cloudiness).
Application Scenarios & Fields
Axson PX 5210 is indispensable for applications combining visibility with heat:
- Automotive Lighting: Headlamp internal bezels, light guides near engine heat, fog lamp lenses.
- Technical Enclosures: Transparent covers for electronics that generate heat during operation.
- Fluid Handling: Sight glasses, flow meters, or reservoirs that handle warm fluids.
- Medical Devices: Housings that may require mild heat sterilization or exposure to warm environments.
Vacuum Casting Process Compatibility
- Silicone Tooling: Compatible with standard silicone molds. High-gloss polished masters are used to impart a glossy finish directly from the mold.
- Machining: Cured parts are rigid and can be drilled or tapped for assembly.
- Polishing: Requires wet sanding and buffing. Due to its hardness (simulating PC), polishing may take slightly longer than softer acrylic-like resins but results in a durable finish.
Advantages vs. Limitations
| Advantages | Limitations |
| Heat Resistance: Superior to PX 5212; ideal for functional thermal testing. | Optical Clarity: While excellent, it is slightly less "crystal water clear" than PX 5212 (PMMA simulant). |
| PC Simulation: Matches the mechanical feel of Polycarbonate. | Brittleness: Like clear PC, it can be notch-sensitive; sharp corners should be avoided. |
| Durability: Hard surface resists scratching better than softer resins. | Cost: Specialized high-temp clear resin is a premium material. |
| UV Stable: Good resistance for a functional resin. | Process: Strict post-curing schedule is mandatory for performance. |
