CNC Machining Guidelines for S355J2

  • Scale Removal: Like all hot-rolled steels, S355J2 has a hard oxide scale. We perform "skin cuts" with tough carbide inserts to expose the clean metal beneath before finish machining.
  • Stress Relief: Heavy machining on one side of a high-strength plate can cause bowing. We recommend stress-relief heat treatment for large precision parts.
  • Tapping: Tapping holes in S355J2 requires high torque. We use spiral point taps and high-pressure oil to ensure clean threads.
  • Flame Cutting vs. Milling: For complex contours in thick plates, we often flame-cut or plasma-cut the profile first, then CNC mill the precision features to save costs.
