While direct 3D printing of silicone exists, the technology is still very limited, slow, and expensive. Fortunately, a far superior, faster, and more effective manufacturing process exists to solve this exact problem: Vacuum Casting.
It's a brilliant, two-step process that provides phenomenal results.
The Master Pattern: First, we create a perfect, high-resolution master pattern of your part. This is typically done using our SLA 3D printing service to achieve a flawless surface finish.
The Silicone Mold: We suspend this master pattern inside a casting box and pour liquid silicone around it. Once the silicone cures, we cut the mold open and remove the master, leaving a perfectly detailed, hollow cavity in its place.
The Casting: We then place this silicone mold inside a vacuum chamber, and pour your chosen production-grade urethane casting material—which can mimic the properties of true silicone, from soft-touch to rigid—into the cavity. The vacuum removes all air bubbles, creating a perfect, void-free copy.
This process is incredibly fast, allowing us to go from a digital file to a small batch of high-quality, true silicone-like parts in just a matter of days.
